A. A raindrop is formed in a cloud and comes to equilibrium with PCO2 = 10‐3.5 bar. The water droplet then passes over a smokestack (coal burning) and absorbs SO2 such that it forms 10‐5 M H2SO4. The droplet remains in equilibrium with the atmosphere as it absorbs sulfuric acid. Find the pH of this water droplet.
b. The droplet next comes to equilibrium with PNH3 = 10‐10.2 bar. The droplet remains in equilibrium with atmospheric CO2 and still contains the sulfuric acid as it equilibrates with NH3. Find the pH and total dissolved N in the raindrop.
